Hospital also conducts regular training sessions for the staff on hand hygiene, personal hygiene.

INFECTION CONTROL
An infection control programme is considered efficient which, when used appropriately, restricts the spread of infection among patients and staff in the hospital. Good infection control programme also considerably reduces patients' morbidity and mortality, length of hospital stay and cost associated with hospital stay. Astha Hospital has Infection Control Committee to monitor and maintain the guidelines of infection control for the patients and staff. Regular training programme are organized for staff to prevent them from the transmission of infections. The programme mainly focuses on the below points:
Standard precautions - hand hygiene including hand washing and antisepsis, using and removing protective equipment like gloves, caps, masks, PPE kit, aprons, slippers etc. when handling blood excretion and secretion and COVID like infected patients, prevention from needle stick/sharp injuries, cleaning environment and spill management, waste management.
Transmission based precautions – In addition to standard precautions, transmission based precautions to be followed which includes airborne precautions, droplet precautions, contact precautions etc.
Hospital acquired Infections (Nosocomial Infections) – Prevention from wound infections, urine tract infections, respiratory infections, bacteraemia and septicaemia.
Restrictions of nursing staff who are sick – with infectious conjunctivitis, diarrohea, exposure to chickenpox, Herpes simplex, respiratory infections.
BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
BMW management refers to completely removing all the hazardous and infectious waste generated from the hospital and laboratories. The importance of waste treatment is to remove all the pathogenic organisms by decontaminating the waste generated. This helps in the prevention of many severe health-related issues that can be caused because of the infective waste. It is a method used to prevent all environmental hazards. Our hospital strongly follows the guidelines of BMW management which includes the important steps of collection, segregation, transportation, treatment and disposal of BMW.
